Over the course of my legislative service, I have worked particularly hard on education, labor and retiree issues. In my third term/131st Legislative Session I continued to serve on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee. I am running to serve my fourth and final term representing House District #39 Belfast-Northport-Belmont.

  • LD 15 An Act to Amend the Law Governing the State Grant Program Administered by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission (passed)

  • LD 153 An Act to Allow Electronic Distribution of Certain Documents  to Municipalities and Electronic Acknowledgment of Receipt of Certain Documents as Acceptable Communications (passed)

  • LD 679 An Act Regarding Animals Abandoned by Tenants (passed)

  • LD 1588 An Act to Provide Public Sector Labor Unions Reasonable Access to Information Regarding Employees (passed)

  • LD 976 Resolve, to Establish the Task Force on Accessibility to Appropriate Communication Methods for Deaf and Hard-of hearing Patients.  (passed & went to Special Appropriations Study Table)

  • LD 1002 An Act to Require a Lunch Period of at Least 30 Minutes for Students and Reduce Food Waste (passed & part of study of school day)

  • LD 70 An Act to Eliminate the Cap on Retirement Benefits for State Employees and Teachers to Which a Cost-of-living Adjustment Is Made (passed House & Senate; not funded)

  • LD 1096 An Act to Help Retired Teachers and State Employees Keep Pace with Inflation by Matching the Cost-of-living Adjustment for Social Security Benefits (passed House & Senate; not funded)

  • LD 99 An Act to Clarify the Allowable Temperature Range in Certain Long-term Care Facilities (voted Ought Not to Pass (ONTP) out of Health and Human Services Committee

In my second term (130th Legislative Session), I worked to get five bills passed as well as a bipartisan budget amendment to increase the funding for retiree health insurance up from 45% to 55%.

  • LD 1428 An Act to Increase the Availability of Nasal Naloxone In Community and Corrections Settings

  • LD 511 An Act to Require Telephone Service Providers To Provide at No Cost to Customers Services Designed To Reduce the Number of So-called Robocalls and Automatically Dialed Telephone Calls

  • LD 655 An Act To Require at Least a 30-minute Lunch Period for Students – became a legislative study

  • LD 864 An Act To Protect Teachers’ Privacy While Delivering Remote Instruction

  • LD 1227  An Act To Provide Equity in the State Income Tax Deduction for Certain Public Employees Retirement Systems Pensions

129th Legislative Session

Proud that as a freshman legislator in the 129th legislature I got three bills passed:

  • LD 167 Anti-Food Shaming in Maine Schools

  • LD 176 Act to Allow an Active Teacher to Sit on the State Board of Education

  • LD 1878 Resolve to Study the Use of Adjunct Professors in the College System
